‘You or Death’ - an image of courtly love
One of my favorite pieces of art, a XV century parade shield.
These images (x, x) give vague clues as to how magnificently crafted it is, not to mention the allegory about Death and the Knight.
For more details read this article.
The shield can be visited at the British Museum.
Gausac - Sant Martin de Tours by Martin M. Miles on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
Since 1970 the village of Gausac is part of Vielha e Mijaran, the largest town and center of the Val d’Aran. The erection of the single nave parish church Sant Martin de Tours started end of the 13th century and was completed 200 years later. It is built in a specific gothic style and has an impressive octogonal bell tower. Traces of a romanesque building that had been here before, can still be found.
Like the Vall de Boí the Vall d’Aran is a small, remote valley in the Pyrenees. It has as well a surprisingly high number of interesting churches.
